Pre-School

    The prevalence of pre – schools attests to the fact that in Ligao City the parents are concerned with the education of their children at a very early age. There are 13 private pre – schools located in the urban barangays. This is not to mention the pre – schools integrated in the public school system in the elementary schools located in Ligao West Central School in barangay Binatagan, in Ligao East Central School in Barangay Tuburan and in Pandan Elementary School in barangay Pandan. These 3 elementary schools are under the Model of Excellence Program prescribed by the Harrington Foundation. Pre – school education is also being taught in 74 day care centers situated in 55 barangays citywide by day care volunteers hired by the City Government. All the teaching materials in the day care centers are provided free by the local government.

    For the private pre – schools there are 300 males and 248 females with the total of 548 enrollees for the school year 2002 – 2003 handled by 33 teachers. The teacher to pupil is ratio is 16 pupils per teacher. Collectively there are a total of 33 classrooms for the private pre – schools.

    In the public pre – school the total enrollment is 150 enrollees broken down to 77 males and 73 female pupils. The public schools hold morning and afternoon sessions to maximize the enrollment handled by 3 teachers. The teacher to pupil ratio is 25 pupils per teacher.

    The day care program caters to the 3 – 6 years old age bracket. Some of the day care centers hold morning and afternoon sessions. The total enrollees for the day care program are 2,407 pupils broken down to 1,175 males and 1,232 females. It is handled by 74 qualified volunteer workers hired by the City Government. The pupil to teacher ratio is 20 pupils to each teacher / volunteer.
